Macclesfield Potato Riot Actors’ Workshops, revised dates for March and April

Did you see us at the Treacle Market? maybe you joined in and helped throw “potatoes” around.  although casting is going well, we still need a few more actors for named roles such as, 2 more people (at least) to be potato sellers and 1 more militia man (can be woman). there are also positions to be filled as cavalrymen(or women) who won’t be on horse but will be swelling the ranks of the cavalry at the end.  we need “bystanders” “rioters” “shop keepers and their families/staff”,  “potboys(and girls)”, “landlady/lord of the coaching Inn” etc. and we also need at least 60 extras willing to dress up in 1812 attire and be families and individuals out doing their marketing, out of town rioters and onlookers.

We need actors to come along to a rehearsal ASAP  and extras to let John ( sambajohn1@ yahoo.com ) or Sam mail@sam-redway.co.uk know they are coming and then come to a couple of the rehearsal/ workshops later on.

Potato Riot Actors workshop/ Rehearsals are going well and our director Sam has started the casting:

Sas Bullock as Maggotty Johnson

Mark Pinches as Ned Ludd

Susanna Morgan as Potato Seller 1 (of 3)

Lavinia Murray as our Magistrate

Simon Mawdsley and Tim Swift as Militia 1&2(of 3)

Rosie and Charli as urchin leaders.

Sam is looking for 2 more people (at least) to be potato sellers and 1 more militia man (can be woman). there are also positions to be filled as cavalrymen(or women) who won’t be on horse but will be swelling the ranks of the cavalry at the end.

We also need more “bystanders” “rioters” “shop keepers and their families/staff” .   Sam says that it will be absolutely possible to be more than one sort of character.

We still need 60 more actors/ extras to dress in regency costume and be part of our 1812 market/ riot, if you fancy joining in the mayhem (Potatoes will be thrown) then contact Sam mail@sam-redway.co.uk and let him know, please also say what sort of character you would like to be.

A bit of background information:
On April 13th 1812 there was a riot in Macclesfield.  You can read about the original riot on the Luddite bicentenary website,  13th April 1812 Macclesfield Potato Riot
On April 13th 2017  Macclesfield Community Artspace is staging a re-enactment which will be a free street theatre event
of the riot followed by a ticketed public feast in the Market Square with the fabulous Sheelanagig performing on stage.
Visit the dedicated Macclesfield Potato Riot Website to find out more.
The plan is in place and the band is booked. We are now holding a series of open meetings to raise awareness of the event and to recruit the hands that we need to make it all happen. Whether you are up for being Stage Manager, helping to set up the feast, building props, being an actor in the re-enactment or any of the hundreds of roles that will help to make this one of the towns premier events we’d love to have you on board. Why not come along to one of the open meetings just to find out what’s going on.

The next open meeting is at Artspace on Tuesday 7th Febuary 7:00pm – 8:30. There’s lots to catch up on and lots to plan so hope to see you all there. Feel free to invite anyone along. We’ll be starting to sign people unto community actor roles for the street theatre as well as sorting out all sorts of other behind the scenes jobs.

Don’t forget tickets for the Feast are now on sale on the website.
