Tribal Gathering

If you are Interested in drumming then reserve your place at Tribal Gathering. On Sunday 23rd March 10:00 – 4:00 at the fantastic Artspace venue we will be using all the drums we can find to create our own sounds through the exploration of Afro-Brazilian and European blended rhythms. Conga, Djembe, Surdo, Snare and
all the hand-helds will combine to create a fusion of sounds from three continents. This is not so much a taught course, its a workshop in the truest sense but don’t worry if you are a beginner there will be help at hand. There will be plenty of instruments available and some basic rhythms to use as platforms to work from and to get your creative juices flowing. Bring your own drum or other instrument if you’d like to and bring your ideas to share.

£20 per person; £10 for Friends of Artspace members (for information about how to become a friend of Artspace or for more info call John Hartshorn on 07522

Parade Launch Tonight 7pm @ ArtSpace

TONIGHT at Macclesfield Community ArtSpace folks @ 7:00,
Workshop is open from 12 noon

The 2014 Barnaby Festival locomotive continues to gather pace as the Carnival Parade Launch Event – this year with an ‘Industry’ theme – takes place on Tuesday 4 March 2014.

Held at the Macclesfield Community ArtSpace in Sutton Mill, at the junction of Gunco Lane and Heapy Street, the two-hour tour of all things Carnival Parade starts at 7pm – and includes costume and float making demonstrations to boot! There’ll be stacks of ideas and sacksful of materials!

John Hartshorn, Parade Director says, “Whether you’d like to take part in the Carnival Parade, or create costumes and floats, the Parade team is on hand to help. Be it ideas, materials, support or workshop facilities where anyone and everyone can construct their push floats – Macc ArtSpace is your free community resource!”

He goes on to appeal to the creative spirit of the Macclesfield community, “We would love to hear from musicians, singers and dancers – as performing groups or individuals. We are also looking for actors/performers to play specific character roles – people who are willing to improvise and engage with the crowd to help animate the show. If this is you, please get in touch, we want this year’s Parade to be the noisiest, most interactive yet!”

The Carnival Parade will take place on Saturday 21 June at 2pm during the Big Weekend and is a highlight of the Barnaby Festival (Saturday 14 – Sunday 29 June).

To join the Barnaby Carnival Parade or find out more, contact, call him on 07522 019454, or alternatively email the team at

ArtSpace is open regularly on Tuesday for Barnaby workshops with a variety of community activities at other times during the week.

Any old iron – or goggles or clocks or corsets…?

You know that tin that you have in the shed or garage that has all of the bits and bobs of broken things that you were going to mend but never got around to it? Well we’d love to take it off your hands and use the contents to make beautiful artwork. Old door locks, bits of plumbing, broken watches or clocks, damaged jewellery, that bit of metal off that thing that fell off the wotsit called, bits of engine, chain or whatever – we can use almost anything!
Please just give me a call on 07522 019454 or drop me an e-mail at and I’ll arrange to pick it up.
